I was fortunate enough to attend the opening night of Tanya’s Cafe at myHotel Chelsea over the weekend. My friend Amy has been following Tanya’s website Better Raw for years, and like the two healthy food geeks we are, we jumped at the chance to go and check out London’s first ever completely raw & organic superfood cocktail bar and cafe.
I know what you’re thinking – superfood cocktails?! Doesn’t drinking alcohol defeat the point of being healthy? Well, when the booze is ethically sourced with no artificial preservatives or refined sugars, it’s practically guilt-free, especially when mixed with these health-boosting ingredients!
Our favourite cocktails out of the…. few we tried were definitely the Lucuma Matata, a delicious blend of Beefeater 24 Gin, their fruit of the day (plum and nectarine), raw honey, fresh lemon & lime, cucumber and vanilla bitters:
The other standout favourite for all the chocolate fiends was Filthy Rich, an intoxicating concoction of walnut infused Sacred Vodka, fresh cherries, cacao powder, acai berry, vanilla bitters and maple syrup:
I’ve never seen such creative cocktails – from the Kombuchacup, an original take on classic Pimms, to Matcha Daiquiris every option had an added superfood and was presented beautifully.
The food on offer was also to die for! As the opening night was 50% off we decided to go for two sharing platters and ordered a board of cultured cheeses (you’d honestly think you were eating real cheese and I am a BIG cheese fan!) as well as the healthy nachos with walnut oyster mushroom meat, guacamole, salsa and soured cashew cream.
The vibe was wholly unpretentious which I think will go a long way when it comes to making the experience inclusive and fun for everyone, whether you adhere to a raw/vegan lifestyle or are just up for trying something different. The staff were very attentive and passionate about what they were serving, so we were happy to follow their recommendations for what to try next! The myHotel conservatory is an ideal space and Tanya has added in a gorgeous living wall of plants that is set to grow into a lush indoor garden.
The desserts behind the counter looked divine so needless to say I will definitely be back to check out the day menu and breakfast options. I know Tanya has worked flat out on the restaurant for months so it was really exciting to see it come to fruition. No doubt the Chelsea healthies will soon be flocking in their masses to Tanya’s so all the more reason to check it out now!
