It’s the weekend and we’re throwing a house party!
Sadly I’ve been feeling under the weather this week, and though I usually love house parties, the thought of entertaining people with loud music and little sleep was not immediately appealing!
I always try to eat healthier when I’m ill so in prep for the party I started to think about “clean drinking”. I went to one of Madeleine Shaw‘s supper clubs recently and she served an incredible fresh cocktail served in a fleshed out pineapple. Here’s my own version using rum:
Half a fresh pineapple
Juice of half a lime
Dash of cinnamon
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. Keep the rum to coconut water ratio about 1:5,but vary to your preference as trial and error tends to work best from my experience! Add crushed ice or serve over ice for a summery tropical treat.
I rarely drink piña coladas as they’re so creamy and rich but this has the benefit of being super-hydrating thanks to the coconut water being full of electrolytes. Coconut water is amazing for a hangover so by adding it to the cocktail you’re laying the groundwork to slightly negate that sore head in the morning!
The benefits of clean drinking are very simple – no additives, less sugar, less crap clogging up your system. If you think about how much sugar and artificial stuff is in a pre-made cocktail mix or fruit juice from concentrate there’s no comparison with using fresh ingredients.
Obviously I can’t guarantee a hangover-free night cause that depends on how much you like to drink…! But if you want to ease the guilt slightly and fit drinking into your otherwise healthy lifestyle then drinking clean may well be the answer to your prayers!
